COUNTY SENIOR FOOTBALL FINAL 2016
In a classy, textbook performance our Senior Footballers saw off the St Martins challenge in Innovate Wexford Park today to advance to the County Senior Football Final in their first year back in senior ranks. Faced with the challenge of bridging a 20 year gap since their last appearance in a Senior football final, the Glynn Barntown men turned up in style today to dominate the game and serve up a pride filled performance for their supporters.
Playing against a strong wind in the first half , the clever tactics and excellent player work rate left the sides undivided at half time with the score at 0-7 to St Martins and 1-4 to Glynn Barntown with an opportune goal from Mark Fanning, a point from Michael Doyle and 3 points from Mick O Regan.
Despite the loss of centre back John Leacy at half time due to injury, Glynn Barntown strode forward in the second half ,making excellent use of the wind advantage to score some top class points from Mick O Regan (0-5), Robbie Dempsey (0-2) , James Stafford (0-1) and a long range goal from Mark Fanning. In a game where the Glynn Barntown men showed flair, composure, character and discipline in equal measure we ran out comfortable and worthy winners on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-9. With a Senior hurling semi final next weekend, the club looks forward with great anticipation to the closing stages of the 2016 Senior championships.
Our men and their management are now deep in preparation for their bid for the Senior football title on Sunday October 9th when they will go head to head with Gusserane. The entire club joins together in wishing all members of the panel and their management and backroom staff every success in their venture.
The club shop will open Wednesday October 5th and flags and bunting will be on sale.
